Food!!

I'd like to mention some Food!

Authentic Mexican Food: Cazadore (on Ashley Street) is amazing and fairly cheap!

Los Banderas (on Baytree Rd) is really good too.

PIZZA:

There's always Dominos Papa Johns Little Caesars and CiCi's but if you want authentic delicious pizza check out Baytree Pizza (on Baytree).

Italian:

Olive Garden just opened (Feb 2012 they're still working out their kinks.)

Baytree Pizza for Calzones Lasagna Pasta as well as Pizza

BREAKFAST:

WaffleHouse is pretty good Huddle House is kind of gross. Daylight Donuts (they're not too bad). There aren't any authentic diners in the area. If you are accustomed to Dunkin Donuts I'm sorry to report there is NO DUNKIN in Valdosta... it's a culture shock.

LUNCH:

Valdosta has some of your typical lunch/dinner places especially by the mall such as Texas Roadhouse Olive Garden Applebees Chili's Buffalo Wild Wings etc.

Grocery Stores:

Commissary: always classic expectations

Walmart (2 of them): I won't shop in produce.

Publix: very clean well kept sometimes higher prices has selection of gourmet items. They're building one near walmart only a few minutes from base.

Harveys: One located on Bemiss (7 mins from base) and it's somewhat run down. Another one located in Hahira and it's brandnew and very nice although small.

Winn Dixie: North Valdosta Rd/Ashley St produce looks good about 15-20 min from base. An older store but it's well kept considering.

Moody AFB is a much smaller base in a small town, Valdosta. Valdosta has your basic necessities wtih 2 Wal-Marts, a Target, a small mall (not much, but something). There is an amusmement park (Wild Adventures) in the area (about 30 minutes from base). Valdosta just opened a dog park in Freedom Park. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not huge, but it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s definitely a positive seeing as a lot of people in the area have pets. Like most areas, there are good and not so good areas of town. A lot of people choose to live in Ray City, Lakeland, or Hahira as well as the city of Valdosta. All are within 10-30 minutes of base. When my husband and I were stationed there we lived in Hahira and were 10 minutes from base and 20 minutes from either Wal-Mart (thanks to easy highway access for one) and 20 minutes from the mall.

The base itself has a small movie theater and bowling alley. There is a brand new outdoor pool with a slide open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The CDC and Youth Center do a lot of activities for kids and plan a whole lot of trips to local area attractions.

Orlando, FL is about 4 hours away. Jacksonville and Tallahassee are both about 2 hours. Savannah, GA is about 3 hours and Atlanta is about 3 and a half hours away. This leaves for great opportunity for weekend trips without the duty member having to take leave. You can head to the beach or to a big city in a matter of a few hours!
